The Exchange Club of Cleveland is undertaking the largest project in our club's history. We are beginning a promotion of patriotism by erecting a 130 foot flag pole in the center of town. A 30 foot by 60 foot flag will fly on it 24 hours a day and will be well lit at night. While planning this project the Cleveland Volunteer Fire Department asked us to consider locating this flag pole on the grounds of the new fire station which will be located at the corner of Commerce Avenue and South Street. We believe this location is a good one. The pole installed by mid-April and the first flag raising will take place Saturday, May 18th, 2019.
"Raise the Flag 2019" will be an awesome event. We will have top notch patriotic music, a speaker who will address what the flag stands for, and lots of good food to enjoy. All area veterans are invited, and we will welcome them with a free meal. The entire community is encouraged to be a part of this celebration. The project will be not only the largest ever, but also the most costly. The flag pole itself will cost over $35,000. Each flag will cost $1,100 or more. We would like to keep several on hand, in the event one suffers damage, and of course the patio area under the glad will cost several thousand dollars. |
